Summary: The registered nurse provides direct patient care to Oncology patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. Report to: Director of Oncology

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of North Carolina (or compact license)
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN) from an accredited nursing program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (required)
  • ACLS (required)
  • Chemotherapy/Biotherapy (required)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Deliver compassionate, high-quality care across a variety of patient needs
  • Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and accountability to prescribe, delegate and coordinate nursing care provided on assigned unit as required with leadership qualities.
  • Documents patient care and monitors patient condition, communicating with care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Detects change in patient status, reports to appropriate health care team members and utilizes resources as dictated by the acuity.
  • Assigns priorities to the patient’s problems with highest priority given to problems that are most urgent and critical.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation
  • Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patient and /or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition and circumstances.
  • Insures completion of requests for diagnostic work and support services.
  • Counts narcotics according to policy and procedure.
