About The Position

Graduate Nurse (GN) - Medical-Surgical (Nason Medical Center) is a full-time position with flexible working hours, including 3x12 shifts or a combination of 3x12 and 1-8 shifts, with rotating weekends and holidays. The role is part of Lifepoint Health, a healthcare delivery network committed to employee well-being and community health. The Medical/Surgical unit offers a supportive team environment with additional staff such as CNAs, MAs, Nurse Externs, and MTs, and a typical patient-to-nurse ratio of 5:1.

Requirements

  • Graduates of an RN program
  • Current nurse’s license in the state of Pennsylvania or a current multistate license (MSL) from compact member states/territories.
  • Associate’s degree is required
  • Must have a graduate nurse permit
  • Must be willing to obtain PA RN License within 3-months of hire
  • BLS certification
  • ACLS certification within 6 months of hire

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Admit and orient patients within 20 minutes of arrival, providing education on room orientation, valuables, and equipment use.
  • Ensure patients have personal items within reach and that call lights are accessible.
  • Utilize appropriate skin prep and electrode placement for telemetry monitoring.
  • Maintain patient safety by keeping beds low with side rails in place and ensuring patients are secured during transport.
  • Identify patients with armbands before treatments, procedures, or dietary services.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of specimen collection procedures and accurately label and deliver specimens.
  • Promptly perform assigned errands and deliver specimens and requisitions.
  • Assemble and operate applicable equipment (suction, siderails, bed scales, traction, etc.) and report malfunctioning equipment.
  • Promptly answer call bell lights and anticipate patient needs.
  • Provide clean linen and make or straighten beds as assigned.
  • Assist with standing, lifting, and ambulation of patients.
  • Perform basic nursing procedures as assigned by the charge nurse.
  • Demonstrate competency in glucometer testing, EKG, Foley catheter insertion, and NGT insertion.
  • Communicate appropriately with patients, speaking respectfully and responding promptly to needs.
  • Provide post-mortem care and transport bodies to the morgue.
  • Account for all patient belongings on the patient belonging record.
  • Handle requests for information with courtesy, accuracy, and respect for patient confidentiality.
  • Observe patients and report any problems immediately to the charge nurse.
  • Report complaints of patients, visitors, and physicians to a higher authority.
  • Assist RN with completion of care plans.
  • Accurately account for narcotics and document all medications administered.
