About The Position

Works under the supervision of the Med-Surg Nurse Manager. The Staff RN assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and supervises individual patient care on the nursing unit according to established policies, procedures and guidelines. Accepts responsibility for the direction of co-workers in the implementation of the patient’s plan of care. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 1 month of hire or transfer.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 12 months of hire or transfer.
  • Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (TEAM ADVANCED) certification within 6 months of hire or transfer.
  • Dysrhythmia Interpretation (DIMC) competency through testing or Telemetry Monitoring & Management class with passing score within 12 months of hire or transfer (effective 2/24/2025).
  • Two years general Medical-Surgical/Charge Nurse experience required.
  • Good basic clinical skills in delivering care in an acute care facility.
  • Good interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families and co-workers.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required.
  • Ability to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device.
  • Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
  • Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Responsibilities

  • Completing nursing assessment of patient and documenting appropriately in the patient chart.
  • Develops a plan of care based upon the assessment of the patient.
  • Implements plan of care and documents in the chart.
  • Evaluates patient’s response to care and updates plan of care.
  • Oversees the delegation of specifics of the patient plan of care to unit staff.
  • Engages in patient/family teaching as appropriate.
  • Maintains professional standards by participating in educational opportunities and Performance Improvement activities.
  • Communicates with the Health Care Team.
  • Adheres to unit/department budgetary practices.
  • Employees need to demonstrate competency in Microsoft® Windows. An employee may be required to participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health.
