About The Position

This is a full-time Registered Nurse position in the Medical PCU department at Texas Health Fort Worth. The department is a 28-bed unit providing intermediate care to a variety of medical patients with a 3:1 patient to nurse ratio. Patients in this unit require specialized monitoring and interventions for conditions such as diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), respiratory compromise requiring specialized equipment, home ventilation systems, tracheostomy care, multi-system organ failure, respiratory distress, sepsis, hematology, GI bleeds, renal/liver failure, acid-base and electrolyte imbalances, and cardiac abnormalities. Medication management includes continuous and titratable IV medications. The facility is a MAGNET facility, a Level I Trauma Center, and a Primary Heart Attack Center (PHAC). The department is known for its high-performing staff with excellent critical thinking skills, self-scheduling for work/life balance, and opportunities for educational and career growth. There is a robust Unit Based Council (UBC) and an engaged leadership team.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
  • BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
  • ACLS – within 90 days of hire required
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
  • 1-year experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required
  • PCU experience preferred – will consider Tele and Med/Surg experience
  • Demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain a positive, customer-focused attitude toward patients.
  • Possess a strong work ethic and always display a high level of professionalism.
  • Have basic computer skills using medical management application systems.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process: assesses the patient, plans the care of the patient, intervenes as appropriate, evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
  • Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information.
  • Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
  • Delivery of high quality of patient care through nursing education, nursing research and innovations in nursing practice.
