About The Position

This is a full-time Registered Nurse position in the Medical PCU department at Texas Health Fort Worth. The department is a 28-bed unit providing intermediate care to a wide variety of medical patients, including those with complex conditions such as diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), respiratory compromise requiring specialized equipment, multi-system organ failure, sepsis, hematology, GI bleeds, renal/liver failure, acid-base and electrolyte imbalances, and cardiac abnormalities. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 3:1, and medication management includes continuous and titratable IV medications. The facility is a MAGNET facility, a Level I Trauma Center, and a Primary Heart Attack Center. The department emphasizes high-performing staff with excellent critical thinking skills, self-scheduling for work/life balance, and opportunities for educational and career growth. There is a robust Unit Based Council (UBC) and an engaged leadership team.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
  • BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
  • ACLS – within 90 days of hire required
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
  • 1-year experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required
  • Basic computer skills using medical management application systems
  • High degree of confidentiality

  • Possess a strong work ethic and always display a high level of professionalism

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • PCU experience preferred – will consider Tele and Med/Surg experience

Responsibilities

  • Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process: assesses the patient, plans the care of the patient, intervenes as appropriate, evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Incorporates age-specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
  • Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information.
  • Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
  • Delivery of high quality of patient care through nursing education, nursing research and innovations in nursing practice.
