The Adult Medical-Surgical Unit at Aurora Medical Center Burlington provides comprehensive care for adult patients with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions in a fast-paced environment focused on patient safety, quality outcomes, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The unit currently has 33 beds—23 on the West side and 10 on the East—with plans to expand to 37 beds next year, and maintains an average daily census of 29 patients with an average length of stay of about three days. Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 4–5:1 on day shift and 5–6:1 on night shift, while nursing assistants typically manage 6–8 patients each. Required skills include BLS certification, with ACLS supported but not mandatory.
