About The Position

This is a Per Diem position for a Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery at McPherson, Kansas. The role involves evaluating, planning, implementing, and documenting nursing care for OB patients. The nurse will function within the Kansas Nurse Practice Act to provide comprehensive, family-centered nursing care to mothers and babies during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. The position requires experience and involves working 12-hour shifts, with varying schedules. The unit emphasizes safe staffing, active patient involvement, and patient-centered care, aiming for a positive impact on patients' journeys.

Requirements

  • Licensed in the State of Kansas as a Registered Nurse in good standing.
  • Minimum: 6 months practicing as an RN.
  • Associate degree in nursing (two-year program) or equivalent formal training program.
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP verified within 6 months of hiring.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BSN) preferred.
  • One to two years of hospital or OB experience.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, plan, implement, and document nursing care for OB patients.
  • Provide comprehensive, family-centered nursing care to mothers and babies during antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods.
  • Work as a team with co-workers on a 12-hour shift to manage OB patients from labor, delivery, postpartum, to home.
  • Assess patient understanding of the plan of care to facilitate education opportunities and materials.
  • Follow established protocols for narcotic and other medication administration, ensuring the 5 rights of medication administration are met.
  • Communicate pertinent information related to patients’ condition to doctors, additional staff nurses, and/or ancillary departments.
  • Document concerns, findings, and actions, implementing appropriate care plans related to patients’ diagnosis for continuity of care.
  • Assess patients’ condition, continuously monitoring changes in status, physical findings, vital signs, and coping skills.
  • Evaluate fetal heart tones, contractions, and vital signs, informing the doctor of progress and/or concerns.
  • Maintain knowledge and clinical skills to access women and newborns with complications and provide care unit stabilization and transport.
  • Provide breastfeeding moms with current information and continuing support.
