About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Texas Health Southwest will provide a high level of care to patients with complex conditions such as respiratory failure, multisystem organ failure, renal failure, cardiovascular issues, and isolation patients. This full-time night position involves a 1:2 nurse to patient ratio in an 18-bed unit within a MAGNET facility and Level III Trauma Center. The department is known for its high-performing staff with excellent critical thinking skills, and offers self-scheduling for work-life balance, opportunities for educational and career growth, a robust Unit Based Council (UBC), and an engaged leadership team.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required
  • CLIAFE Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency (required)
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
  • BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
  • ACLS – within 90 days of hire
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
  • NIHSS – within 6 months of hire required
  • 1 year experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required
  • Demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • The professional nurse exhibits understanding of basic human needs.
  • The professional nurse demonstrates recognition and understanding of patient’s affiliations.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • Current RN experience in ICU and/or PCU setting preferred

Responsibilities

  • Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process: assesses the patient, plans the care of the patient, intervenes as appropriate, evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
  • Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information.
  • Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
  • Delivery of high quality of patient care through nursing education, nursing research and innovations in nursing practice.
