About The Position

Sentara is hiring an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for the High-Risk Labor & Delivery Unit at Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. This is a full-time, night shift position (7p-7a). The unit is the only Labor & Delivery unit in the region to receive the Beacon Award for Excellence. It is a fast-paced, high-acuity, and rewarding practice environment, supporting a collaborative team of physicians, specialists, and staff. Nurses are cross-trained to provide comprehensive surgical and obstetrical care. As a teaching hospital, there are opportunities for hands-on learning, mentorship, and professional growth. The hospital is a 525-bed tertiary care facility, a Level I Adult Trauma Center, and a Magnet hospital for nursing excellence.

Requirements

  • RN Degree REQUIRED
  • Virginia RN or Compact Multi-State License REQUIRED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire
  • NRP within 6 months of hire
  • PALS within 6 months of hire
  • Previous Labor & Delivery experience STRONGLY PREFERRED

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or MSN preferred
  • Critical Care/IMCU ACLS within 1 year of hire
  • Emergency Care - ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year of hire
  • Oncology Care ONS/ONCC or Sentara approved course Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider Card within 6 months of hire
  • Women's Care - Perinatal departments; NRP within 6 months of hire
  • Inpatient Pediatrics. PALS within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
  • Adhere to standards of practice including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching and health promotion, and evaluation.
  • Uphold standards of professional performance including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
  • Utilize clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards required by specific clinical areas.
  • Provide comprehensive surgical and obstetrical care, including scrubbing, circulating, recovering, and labor/delivery.
