About The Position

Sentara is hiring an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for the High-Risk Labor & Delivery Unit at Norfolk General Hospital, in Norfolk Virginia. This is a full-time, night shift position. The Labor & Delivery unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is the only unit in the region to receive the Beacon Award for Excellence. It is a fast-paced, high-acuity, and rewarding practice where nurses are cross-trained to scrub, circulate, recover, and labor/deliver, providing comprehensive surgical and obstetrical care. The unit is supported by a collaborative team of physicians, resident physicians, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, surgical techs, and administrative staff. As a teaching hospital, it provides hands-on learning opportunities, mentorship, and professional growth. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice and professional performance encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.

Requirements

• RN Degree REQUIRED
• Virginia RN or Compact Multi-State License REQUIRED
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire
• NRP within 6 months of hire
• PALS within 6 months of hire

Nice To Haves

• BSN or MSN preferred
• Previous Labor & Delivery experience STRONGLY PREFERRED
• Critical Care/IMCU ACLS within 1 year of hire
• Emergency Care - ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year of hire
• Oncology Care ONS/ONCC or Sentara approved course Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider Card within 6 months of hire
• Women's Care - Perinatal departments; NRP within 6 months of hire
• Inpatient Pediatrics. PALS within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities

• Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
• Adhere to the standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
• Adhere to the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
• Utilize clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
• Provide comprehensive surgical and obstetrical care.
• Collaborate with physicians, resident physicians, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, surgical techs, and administrative staff.
• Provide hands-on learning opportunities, mentorship, and professional growth.
