About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) Float Pool position at Texas Health Southwest is a PRN (as needed) role working night shifts with rotating weekends, typically 1-2 shifts per week. This role is part of the Central Staffing department for a 222-bed facility that is a MAGNET facility, Level III Trauma Center, and Primary Stroke center. The position offers self-scheduling for work/life balance and the opportunity to work on various units including PCU, Med Surg, and ED Holds. There are excellent opportunities for educational and career growth, including leadership advancement.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required.
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire.
  • CLIAFE – Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency.
  • BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly.
  • ACLS – within 90 days of hire required.
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire.
  • NIHSS - required for ICU/PCU Neighborhood 6 Months Req.
  • 1-year experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process: assesses the patient, plans the care of the patient, intervenes as appropriate, evaluates the effectiveness of intervention.
  • Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
  • Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information.
  • Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
