About The Position

This part-time Registered Nurse position focuses on direct and indirect nursing care for patients with cardiac pacemakers and automatic internal cardiac defibrillator systems. The role involves patient education, medication administration, remote device monitoring, performing interrogations and reprogramming, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. The nurse will also be responsible for documentation, billing, and managing patient flow within the device clinic.

Requirements

  • Nurse, Registered (RN), in the State of Wisconsin
  • CPR certification required upon hire or within 60 days of hire.
  • Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support ) certification
  • BSN or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years clinical experience, with at least one-year current experience in EP/Device clinic or 5+ years of cardiovascular experience.
  • Proficient in interpretation of EKG/cardiac rhythms/ arrhythmias
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served
  • Good computer and organizational skills.
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to assess, plan and intervene and evaluate the physical, emotional and education needs of patients.
  • Basic keyboarding and typing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient education on all aspects of heart pacing.
  • Administers medications according to approved policy/procedure following protocol or physician order and monitors response.
  • Evaluates and manages the care of patients with cardiac pacemakers and automatic internal cardiac defibrillator systems.
  • Contacts patients regarding company recalls requiring closer monitoring and takes appropriate measures for any further changes in the device.
  • Performs an independent daily review of remote transmission of implanted devices.
  • Correlates information with the clinical condition of patients to assist in the management of arrhythmias.
  • Performs all interrogations and necessary reprogramming of devices in patients scheduled in the office setting.
  • Prepares patients for exams and treatments physically and mentally and monitors their response.
  • Assists physician with all procedures and treatments for the unit.
  • Orders tests and reviews results according to department protocol or as ordered by physician.
  • Performs trans telephonic checks on pacemaker patients requiring this mode of follow up.
  • Provides reports from trans telephonic checks to physicians.
  • Schedules all trans telephonic checks via EMR system and notifies patients.
  • Reports abnormal findings, patient complaints, or concerns, to physician or supervisor.
  • Assures the accuracy and completeness of messages.
  • Triages and prioritizes messages, communicating information to providers/patients in a timely manner.
  • Reviews information regarding the patient’s device, health history, medications and all information pertaining to the patient’s heart failure status.
  • Serves as an advocate and liaison between patients, staff, physicians and external customers by sharing necessary information to ensure continuity of care.
  • Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective, efficient and safe patient care: Electrophysiologists, Cardiologists, Surgeons, Cardiac Nurses and Device Nurses in other clinics.
  • Provides consistent and accurate documentation of patient information, care and concerns in the EMR.
  • Completes billing of all services provided in the device clinic.
  • Completes vouchers, referrals and requisitions with all appropriate information.
  • Completes all patient documentation within two full clinic business days after care and/or services have been provided.
  • Manages time and demonstrates resource management skills effectively to complete daily activities.
  • Delegates tasks to others.
  • Maintains patient flow by keeping rooms clean, stocked and available and maintains adequate inventory.
  • Checks equipment and trays for proper functioning and availability.
  • Provides direction and supervision to other licensed and unlicensed personnel.
  • Performs additional duties when and where indicated.
