Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency - Training Opportunity
About The Position
Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Emergency Department at Richmond Hospital. This is a training opportunity focused on the BCIT Emergency Nursing Specialty Program. The role involves practicing within a patient and family-centered care model, adhering to BCCNM standards. Responsibilities include providing emergency nursing to patients of all ages with diverse symptoms in an uncontrolled environment, acting as a triage nurse to assess and prioritize care, and serving as a member of the emergency response team for multi-trauma and disaster situations. The role also involves enhancing patient/family quality of life, consulting with other healthcare givers, demonstrating expertise and leadership, maintaining clinical competence, and participating in committees and research. The Richmond Hospital ED is a high-volume department seeing over 70,000 patients annually, with a focus on teamwork, mentorship, and continuous learning. Candidates accepting this training opportunity agree to remain with VCH as a regular status nurse for at least 18 months post-training, or VCH will seek to recover program costs.
Requirements
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

- Eligibility for post-basic training education is prioritized to applicants with approximately one years recent acute medical/surgical experience upon critical care program full-time start date.
- Must successfully complete the post-basic training education prior to working in the Department.
- Candidates accepting this training opportunity agree to remain with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a regular status nurse in the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they are hired for at least 18 months subsequent to completing training.
Responsibilities
- Practices within the context of a patient and family centred care model and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice for registered nurses and code of ethics and the vision and values of the organization.
- Provides emergency nursing to patients of all ages presenting with a wide variety of symptoms within an uncontrolled environment and to unique patient populations such as victims of sexual assault.
- As a triage nurse, assesses patient needs and prioritizes care requirements often with limited information.
- As member of emergency response team, stabilizes and resuscitates multi-trauma victims, prepares for and responds to disaster situations.
- Enhances quality of life from the perspective of the patient/family.
- Consults, confers, and collaborates with other healthcare givers.
- Demonstrates expertise and leadership in nursing practice.
- Maintains and advances clinical competence.
- Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.
