About The Position

The RN Clinical Specialist will be responsible for serving as a role model of excellence in nursing knowledge and clinical practice for the critical care environment. Major roles of the RN Clinical Specialist include those of educator, consultant, researcher, change agent, and clinical guideline expert. Collaborates with other clinical educators to conduct educational needs assessments for the different department patient populations they oversee. Utilizes principles of leadership, change theory and adult education to improve nursing practice and promote quality care. Supports System and Nursing Strategic Plans, Relationship-Based Care, and Shared Leadership.

Requirements

Masters Degree, Nursing or relevant field (Required)
Bachelors Degree, Nursing and enrolled in Masters in Nursing or relevant field program (Required)
3-4 years Clinical nursing experience in Hospital Setting (Required)
Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Upon Hire(Required)
CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire(Required)
ACLS Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 60 Days(Required)
Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) - American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN Certification Corporation) Related nursing specialty certification accepted in lieu of CCRN within 60 Days(Required)

Monitors unit(s) compliance with regulatory standards in conjunction with Manager(s).
Provides Manager with input into performance appraisal process.
Monitors documentation to meet regulatory institutional, and legal, standards.

Participates in all required state and federal on-site surveys.
Creates and conducts departmental education/training sessions for the team.
Selects and implements valid and reliable instruments and metrics to measure processes and outcomes.
Provides staff recognition through positive reinforcement and constructive feedback.
Consult with doctors and other healthcare professionals as needed.
Counsel, develop and evaluate the performance and clinical practice of staff.
Uses evidenced based practice and performance improvement to guide clinical decision-making.
