Kaniksu Community Health is a non-profit, award-winning Community Health Center providing integrated, team-based healthcare in north Idaho. Requirements

  • Minimum Associate Degree in Nursing or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years similar work or internship required.
  • Must be licensed to practice as an RN in the State of Idaho.
  • Possess cognitive skills necessary for understanding medical instructions, identifying problems, and offering solutions.
  • Must demonstrate accuracy, proficiency, and efficiency with computer skills for data entry.
  • Demonstrate effective people skills with the ability to communicate well with patients and families utilizing tact and professionalism.
  • Consistent demonstration of a team approach to patient care.
  • Must be able to ensure that all daily actions and communication are in support of the mission, vision, and values of Kaniksu Community Health.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working obstetrics and/or pediatrics preferred but not essential.
  • Experience in a community health center, public health, or a community hospital is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent patient experience while performing essential clinical or administrative work in a fast-paced, productive environment.
  • Assist patients in managing their care at Kaniksu Community Health.
  • Work cooperatively with KCH Medical Providers and personnel to carry out goals and objectives according to established policies and procedures.
  • Review patient medical records for completeness and update as appropriate.
  • Assist the team as needed to provide treatment and/or medical procedures.
  • Perform nursing Flip Visits, including rooming patients, documenting chief complaint, and obtaining pertinent patient history.
  • Take and record patient vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, pulse rate, height, weight).
  • Perform screening/testing under the direction of Medical Providers.
  • Perform routine patient procedures (e.g., routine lab work) as per Nursing/Provider direction or protocols.
  • Assist Providers with patient care tasks and procedures (e.g., Pap tests/pelvic exams, surgical procedures, dressings).
  • Prepare patients for diagnostic tests; collect and label specimens, and complete lab tests allowable by CLIA certificate.
  • Administer medications and give injections, consistent with knowledge of pharmacology and health center policy.
  • Call in prescriptions following written Medical Provider orders.
  • Fill out laboratory and diagnostic testing requests and make patient appointments following written Medical Provider orders.
  • Assist multiple providers with established patient care protocols and coordinate quality health care as part of the Medical Home Team.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, orderly work area and sterilize instruments as required.
  • Adhere to infection control policies.
  • Prepare patient record information for physician referrals and communicate significant information to other health care providers.
  • Participate in preventive health teaching and education pertinent to procedures being conducted.
  • Provide guidance to non-clinical staff regarding clinical issues (e.g., phone triage).
  • Maintain IRIS inventory and tracking, including participating in and conducting annual IRIS site visits.
  • Maintain compliance with PharmaWatch and monitor for temperature excursions, submitting incident reports.
  • Log patient information in respective data banks (e.g., IRIS Idaho State Immunization).
  • Attend and actively participate in PCMH Team Meetings, Staff Meetings, In-Service and Educational Programs.
  • Assist with the orientation of rotating clinical personnel.
  • Create a positive team environment and be a good team member.
  • Ensure all KCH patients are given top priority and that patient and provider needs are met through appropriate systems and the highest level of patient services.
  • Relate well to people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, showing empathy and treating patients with dignity and respect.
  • Provide accurate and thorough work product with attention to detail, maintaining accurate documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Support compliance with federal, state, and other agency requirements.
  • Maintain strict adherence to confidentiality of all patient and organizational information.
  • Manage priorities and workload, utilizing time management skills for effective workflow in a fast-paced clinic environment.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures and support standardization and integration across the KCH organization.
  • Maintain knowledge of universal precautions and bloodborne pathogens.
  • Assist with clinic training to ensure compliance with OSHA and Infection Control requirements.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to meet patient care needs/demands.
  • Perform related work as required.
