Kaniksu Community Health is a non-profit, award-winning Community Health Center providing integrated, team-based healthcare in north Idaho. Requirements

  • Minimum Associate Degree in Nursing or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years similar work or internship required.
  • Must be licensed to practice as an RN in the State of Idaho.
  • Possess cognitive skills necessary to understanding medical instructions and identifying problems and offering solutions.
  • Must demonstrate accuracy, proficiency, and efficiency with computer skills for data entry.
  • Demonstrate effective people skills with the ability to communicate well with patients and families utilizing tact and professionalism.
  • Consistent demonstration of team approach to patient care.
  • Must be able to ensure that all daily actions and communication are in support of the mission, vision, and values of Kaniksu Community Health.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working obstetrics and/or pediatrics preferred but not essential.
  • Experience in a community health center, public health, or a community hospital is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Works cooperatively with KCH Medical Providers and personnel to carry out goals and objectives according to established policies and procedures.
  • Reviews patient medical records for completeness and updates them as appropriate.
  • Assists the team as needed to provide treatment and/or medical procedures.
  • Performs nursing Flip Visits to increase patient access, including rooming patients, documenting reason for visit, chief complaint, and obtaining pertinent patient history.
  • Takes and records patient vital signs.
  • Performs screening/testing under the direction of Medical Providers.
  • Performs routine patient procedures (e.g., routine lab work) as per Nursing/Provider direction or protocols.
  • Assists Provider with patient care tasks and procedures (e.g., Pap tests/pelvic exams, surgical procedures, dressings).
  • Prepares patients for diagnostic tests; collects and labels specimens, completes lab tests allowable by CLIA certificate.
  • Administers medications and gives injections in accordance with health center policy.
  • Calls in prescriptions following written Medical Provider orders.
  • Fills out laboratory and diagnostic testing requests and makes patient appointments following written Medical Provider orders.
  • Assists multiple providers with established patient care protocols and works collaboratively for the coordination of quality health care as part of the Medical Home Team.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, orderly work area and sterilizes instruments as required.
  • Adheres to infection control policies.
  • Prepares patient record information for physician referrals and communicates significant information to other health care providers.
  • Participates in preventive health teaching and education pertinent to procedures being conducted.
  • Provides guidance to non-clinical staff regarding clinical issues (e.g., phone triage).
  • Maintains IRIS inventory and tracking, including participating in and conducting annual IRIS site visits.
  • Maintains compliance with PharmaWatch and monitors for temperature excursions, submitting incident reports.
  • Logs patient information in respective data banks (e.g., IRIS Idaho State Immunization).
  • Attends and actively participates in PCMH Team Meetings, Staff Meetings, In-Service and Educational Programs.
  • Assists with orientation of rotating clinical personnel.
  • Creates a positive team environment and works with the PCMH Team to ensure all KCH patients are given top priority.
  • Relates well to people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and treats patients with dignity and respect.
  • Provides accurate and thorough work product with attention to detail; maintains accurate documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Supports compliance with federal, state, and other agency requirements, adhering to confidentiality.
  • Manages priorities and workload, utilizing time management for effective workflow in a fast-paced clinic environment.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures and supports standardization and integration across the KCH organization.
  • Maintains knowledge of universal precautions and bloodborne pathogens.
  • Assists with clinic training to ensure compliance with OSHA and Infection Control requirements.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to meet patient care needs/demands.
  • Performs related work as required.
