About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) Clinical Market Float Pool position in the Emergency Department (ED) is responsible for providing nursing care to patients according to established standards and practices, adhering to the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act. This role involves applying professional nursing theory and practice to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. The RN in this position is required to float to all Emergency Departments within the Roper St. Francis Healthcare (RSFH) system, including freestanding EDs, work every other weekend, and provide holiday coverage as per the ED Holiday Scheduling Policy.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school or college of nursing.
  • At least 2 years of RN work experience in an Emergency Department; or for internal RSFH RNs, at least 1 year of RN work experience in a RSFH ED required.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of South Carolina or holds a current compact/multi-state license as a Registered Nurse in a recognized NCSBN Compact State and is not a permanent resident of SC.
  • Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card.
  • Knowledge of the professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures to administer patient care.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide on-going patient care.
  • Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining records and writing reports.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, hospital, medical staff and the public.
  • Ability to analyze situations and apply critical thinking.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Constant interaction with internal and external customers to include (but not limited to) patients, families, physicians, employees, and visitors.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping.
  • Frequent lifting/moving patients.
  • Intermittent lifting, moving or carrying, pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity.
  • Constant reaching with hands/arms.
  • Frequent talking or hearing.
  • Corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
  • Exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue.
  • Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment.
  • Intermittent exposure to risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
  • Moderate noise level in work area.
  • Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours.
  • May be required to take call and/or work weekends/holidays based on the needs of the department.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred or required within five (5) years of hire date.
  • Current RN Teammates transferring to another RN position in the same Service Line/Specialty will not be required to complete BSN within five (5) years of transfer date.
  • Effective July 1, 2022, current RN Teammates transferring to another RN position in a different Service Line/Specialty will be required to complete BSN within five (5) years of transfer date.

Responsibilities
