About The Position

The Cardiovascular Intermediate Care Unit (CVIMC) is a 24-bed unit that is monitored at the bedside and through the Central Monitoring Unit, with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 3:1 or 4:1. This unit cares for patients undergoing pre and post open cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, pre and post cardiac catheterization, pre and post cardiac intervention (including pacemaker insertions and ICD implantations), and patients requiring arterial and venous sheath care, monitoring, and removal. Nurses manage patients with cardiac arrhythmia, pre and post electrophysiology and ablation therapy, pre and post valve replacement (including TAVR), and pre and post vascular surgery (including Carotids, TCAR, Femoral Popliteal Bypass, AAA). Nurses also manage patients on drips such as inotropes, antiarrhythmics, and insulin, including DKA and HHS. This role is for an experienced RN who is capable, with previous specialty experience preferred, and focused on expanding knowledge and skills. The nurse will consistently provide effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients, seeking and providing feedback for improved clinical practice. The role assumes a beginning clinical bedside leadership role and seeks mentoring in this process. Participation on PNGC councils and Nursing Quality Teams is expected, as is active participation on Unit Council to improve nursing sensitive indicators, RN Satisfaction, Employee Engagement, Culture of Safety, and Patient Experience data. The nurse will work with other care team members to recruit and retain an excellent nursing care team. For new graduate clinical RNs, the focus is primarily on developing knowledge and skills and showing growth in ability to care for increasingly complex patients. The role is responsible for providing direct and safe patient care based on the nursing process, and for coordinating care for assigned patients on a shift to promote the achievement of clinical outcomes. Consultation with more experienced clinicians and acceptance of feedback as a constructive professional development tool is required.
