About The Position

Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Intermediate Care/Step Down Unit-3 East. This is a full-time, day shift position (7a - 7p). New graduates are welcome and eligible for a $7500 Sign On Bonus. The role offers participation in Sentara’s dynamic 6-month Nurse Residency Program, designed for new graduate RNs with less than one year of experience. This program provides practical skills, hands-on training, professional development, and mentoring to support the transition into a nursing career, with opportunities to enter specialties such as Medical Surgical nursing, Intermediate Care, Critical Care, Emergency Care, the Operating room, or Women’s Health. The 3East Intermediate Care Unit has a supportive team environment with a favorable nurse-patient ratio, and includes a unit-based nurse educator, team coordinator, and manager. The unit has an active Partnership council and is involved in the hospital’s Magnet redesignation journey. New graduate RNs receive a 10 to 12-week clinical preceptorship and enrollment in the Transition to Practice Program. This is a fast-paced, team-based care environment serving a patient population that may include sepsis, hemorrhage, stroke, cardiac, trauma, post-op, substance withdrawal, and diabetic ketoacidosis.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
  • Registered nursing License (Required)
  • Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nursing License.
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire
  • Less than one year of experience (for Nurse Residency Program eligibility)

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)
  • Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in the Intermediate Care/Step Down Unit.
  • Participate in the Nurse Residency Program (for new graduates).
  • Engage in clinical preceptorship and transition to practice programs.
  • Collaborate with a supportive team including nurse educators, coordinators, and managers.
  • Contribute to the hospital's Magnet redesignation journey.
  • Care for a diverse patient population with conditions such as sepsis, hemorrhage, stroke, cardiac issues, trauma, post-operative recovery, substance withdrawal, and diabetic ketoacidosis.
