About The Position

The Behavioral Health Unit at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital embodies a culture of teamwork and effective communication, essential for providing specialized care to patients. The BHU unit is an Adult Psych Unit & Geri Psych Unit. The Adult psych unit serves patients aged 18 and up with 22 beds, plus an additional 8 beds as an overflow unit. The Geri Psych unit serves patients aged 65 and over. A multimillion-dollar renovation has been completed, improving the esthetic of the unit as well as bringing ligature points and safety up to the latest standards. Each team of nurses is very supportive and works in collaboration with three Psychiatrists on staff and one medical director who is onsite 8 days a month and works telehealth. You’ll make an impact by utilizing plan of care intervention. You will shape exceptional patient journeys every day and leverage your skills to directly impact patient wellbeing.

Requirements

  • Critical thinking and decisive judgment; able to work with minimal supervision in stressful environments.
  • Ability to quickly learn and navigate multiple clinical software systems.
  • Effective English communication (read, write, speak, and understand).
  • Ability to successfully complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.
  • Associate’s degree in nursing required.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current RN license in state of practice.
  • BCLS required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
  • Handle with Care preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice for behavioral health patients.
  • Collaborates with the interprofessional team to support a safe, therapeutic environment and high-quality outcomes.
  • Performs plan-of-care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care activities.
  • Documents patient care provided in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to the care team, physicians, patients, and families.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living (hygiene, elimination, nutrition, ambulation).
  • Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate care (transfers, discharges, referrals, and psychosocial/spiritual support needs).
  • Assesses learning needs and delivers age-/culture-appropriate patient and family education.
  • Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
  • Participates in unit and organizational performance improvement and required continuing education.
  • Provides quality patient care and works other shifts/units as needed; may be assigned on call.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
