About The Position

The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RN/RPN) is accountable for promoting high quality care through assessing, planning, implementing, documenting and evaluating the total care needs of our patients/residents/clients (P/R/Cs). The RN/RPN is required to coordinate with all the departments within the facility, families and professionals associated with P/R/Cs care. The RN/RPN must promote effective communication in the facility through care given and reporting mechanisms. The RN/RPN is expected to participate in staff meetings and educational opportunities to maintain their own professional competence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing (BPN) or Bachelor of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing diploma or Nursing diploma.
  • Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS).
  • Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS).
  • Registered/eligible with College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of SK - CRPNS.
  • Basic Decision making skills.
  • Basic Counseling skills.
  • Basic Mediation skills.
  • Basic Assessment skills.
  • Basic Facilitation skills.
  • Basic Computer skills.
  • Basic Communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions.
  • Knowledge of commonly used psychotropic medications.
  • Knowledge of the Provincial Mental Health Services Act and Regulations.
  • Ability to keep effective work relationships with clients of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Competency in psychiatric nursing assessments, care planning & treatment.
