About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Radiology department, specifically for night shifts. This role involves applying the nursing process to plan and implement patient care, including education and continuum of care planning. The nurse will communicate patient information to the healthcare team, collaborate on patient goals, and evaluate progress. The position requires continuous professional growth according to Board of Nursing standards. The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of ICU or ED experience. The nurse will work three 12-hour shifts per week (6:30p - 7:00a) with a weekend and on-call requirement of 3-4 shifts in a 6-week period. The role involves a hybrid of Radiology Resource nursing and Nuclear Medicine, floating between MRI, ROCU, Pet Floro, CT, and IV Cubby, acting as a resource for various Radiology areas. Responsibilities include responding to stat calls, accessing ports, and monitoring pacemakers. Nuclear medicine duties include performing cardiac stress perfusion studies, stress testing in the PET department, viability studies, brain mappings, sarcoid studies, monitoring post-IR procedure patients, assisting with Coronary CTAs, and prepping thyroid cancer patients for Iodine therapies. The nurse will also teach nuclear medicine students patient care curriculum, including direct patient care, vital signs, and EKG rhythm interpretation.

Requirements

  • 1 year of relevant RN experience
  • Active RN license
  • Graduate of an approved discipline program

Responsibilities

  • Applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning.
  • Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team.

  • Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to the Board of Nursing standards.
  • Works a hybrid of Radiology Resource nursing and Nuclear Medicine.
  • Floats between MRI, ROCU, Pet Floro, CT and IV Cubby and acts as a resource to various areas of Radiology.
  • Responds to a stat or rapid call, accesses ports, monitors pace makers, etc.
  • Performs Cardiac stress perfusion studies on mostly adults but also on children.
  • Performs stress testing in the PET department.
  • Performs Viability studies in PET to test for hibernating myocardium using high dose insulin gtts combined with glucose and potassium.
  • Performs brain mappings/ stress with Diamox or adenosine.
  • Performs sarcoid studies in PET using heparin.
  • Monitors mapping patients after procedures in Interventional Radiology.
  • Assists with Coronary CTAs utilizing metoprolol IV, diltiazem IV and nitroglycerin.
  • Helps thyroid cancer patients with prepping them for Iodine therapies and testing.
  • Teaches the nuclear medicine students the patient care curriculum in the allied health program.
  • Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
  • Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
  • Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.
