Registered Nurse, Pulmonary ICU, Night Shift - VUH
About The Position
Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Registered Nurse for its new Pulmonary Intensive Care Unit (ICU) located on the 8th Floor of the Jim Ayers Tower Expansion at Vanderbilt University Hospital. This is a fast-paced, multidisciplinary unit that functions as an ICU/Stepdown hybrid, offering a unique opportunity to deliver high-acuity care in a team-based environment. Nurses and providers will engage in collaborative rounding, fostering an upbeat and supportive culture. The patient population includes individuals with Acute Respiratory Failure & ARDS, Multi-System Organ Failure & Sepsis, Drug Overdose & GI Bleeds, Diabetic Ketoacidosis & Hypertensive Crisis, Acute/Chronic Renal Failure, and Liver Failure/Cirrhosis. The unit offers tailored orientation, typically 6-8 weeks, based on experience. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:1-2 for ICU and 1:3-4 for Stepdown.
Requirements
- LIC-Registered Nurse - Licensure-Others
- Relevant Work Experience
- 1 year of ICU experience
- Graduate of an approved discipline specific program
Nice To Haves
- 2 years of acute care experience
Responsibilities
- Applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning.
- Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team.
- Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes.
- Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to the Board of Nursing standards.
- Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
- Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
- Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
- Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.
