About The Position

As a nurse on the Progressive Care Unit, you can care for a wide range of moderately complex patients between two unique units, R3/R4. PCU provides advanced monitoring with sophisticated equipment, intensive treatments, and a team approach to promote wellness through assessment, monitoring, and education in critically ill patients. The Progressive Care nurse primarily treats patients with the following diagnosis: compromised airway requiring intensive respiratory therapy, controlled infusion of antiarrhythmic or vasoactive IV drug therapy, acute poisoning, suicide attempts, multisystem failure, neurologic abnormalities, metabolic crisis, multiple trauma, chest pain, myocardial infarction, heart failure, hemodynamic instability, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, post-anesthesia care, mechanical ventilation, cardiac monitoring, arrhythmia analysis, thrombolytic therapy, GI bleeding, internal/external pacing, electrical cardioversion, acute dialysis (peritoneal, hemodialysis) and post-cardiac arrest. PCU nurses are encouraged and supported for professional growth with committee commitments, education seminars, certifications, advancement in degree, LEAD, preceptor course, and within-department education.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse license
  • Progressive Care experience
  • Ability to care for patients with compromised airway requiring intensive respiratory therapy
  • Ability to administer controlled infusion of antiarrhythmic or vasoactive IV drug therapy
  • Ability to manage patients with acute poisoning, suicide attempts, multisystem failure, neurologic abnormalities, metabolic crisis, multiple trauma, chest pain, myocardial infarction, heart failure, hemodynamic instability
  • Ability to perform invasive hemodynamic monitoring
  • Ability to provide post-anesthesia care
  • Ability to manage patients on mechanical ventilation
  • Ability to perform cardiac monitoring and arrhythmia analysis
  • Ability to administer thrombolytic therapy
  • Ability to care for patients with GI bleeding
  • Ability to manage internal/external pacing
  • Ability to perform electrical cardioversion
  • Ability to provide acute dialysis (peritoneal, hemodialysis)
  • Ability to care for post-cardiac arrest patients
