About The Position

As a nurse on the Progressive Care Unit, you can care for a wide range of moderately complex patients between two unique units, R3/R4. PCU provides advanced monitoring with sophisticated equipment, intensive treatments, and a team approach to promote wellness through assessment, monitoring, and education in critically ill patients. The Progressive Care nurse primarily treats patients with the following diagnosis: compromised airway requiring intensive respiratory therapy, controlled infusion of antiarrhythmic or vasoactive IV drug therapy, acute poisoning, suicide attempts, multisystem failure, neurologic abnormalities, metabolic crisis, multiple trauma, chest pain, myocardial infarction, heart failure, hemodynamic instability, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, post-anesthesia care, mechanical ventilation, cardiac monitoring, arrhythmia analysis, thrombolytic therapy, GI bleeding, internal/external pacing, electrical cardioversion, acute dialysis (peritoneal, hemodialysis) and post-cardiac arrest. PCU nurses are encouraged and supported for professional growth with committee commitments, education seminars, certifications, advancement in degree, LEAD, preceptor course, and within-department education.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse license
  • Progressive Care experience
  • Ability to care for a wide range of moderately complex patients
  • Proficiency in advanced monitoring with sophisticated equipment
  • Skilled in intensive treatments
  • Competent in assessment, monitoring, and education of critically ill patients
  • Experience with patients requiring intensive respiratory therapy
  • Experience with controlled infusion of antiarrhythmic or vasoactive IV drug therapy
  • Experience with patients with acute poisoning, suicide attempts, multisystem failure, neurologic abnormalities, metabolic crisis, multiple trauma, chest pain, myocardial infarction, heart failure, hemodynamic instability
  • Experience with invasive hemodynamic monitoring
  • Experience in post-anesthesia care
  • Experience with mechanical ventilation
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring and arrhythmia analysis
  • Experience with thrombolytic therapy
  • Experience with GI bleeding management
  • Experience with internal/external pacing
  • Experience with electrical cardioversion
  • Experience with acute dialysis (peritoneal, hemodialysis)
  • Experience with post-cardiac arrest care
