About The Position

The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) provides intermediate-level care for patients requiring close monitoring and advanced nursing interventions. This role supports high-acuity patients and may require charge nurse responsibilities based on unit needs. The PCU Registered Nurse delivers safe, high-quality, patient-centered care using professional nursing standards and clinical judgment. The RN is responsible for assessing patient needs, implementing individualized care plans, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to promote optimal patient outcomes in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current New York State RN license
  • Current RN licensure required at time of submission
  • BLS (Required)
  • ACLS (Required)
  • Basic lethal dysrhythmia certification within 6 months of employment
  • NIHSS certification within the first 6 months of employment
  • Strong clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to manage multiple patients and competing priorities
  • Effective leadership and delegation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication abilities
  • Creative problem-solving skills and adaptability
  • Compliance with all facility policies and safety standards is mandatory
  • Traveler must have completed at least one (1) successful prior travel assignment
  • 100-mile radius rule enforced
  • Travelers are expected to integrate fully into unit workflows and perform at the same level as core staff

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Progressive Care or Critical Care experience preferred
  • PALS (Preferred)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments (clinical, educational, mental, and spiritual needs)
  • Deliver and evaluate individualized nursing care plans
  • Recognize and respond to patient condition changes and safety risks
  • Ensure safe patient handling and appropriate use of lifts and mobility equipment
  • Provide patient and family education as appropriate
  • Function effectively in high-stress clinical situations
  • Demonstrate leadership by prioritizing care and delegating tasks
  • May be required to function in a Charge Nurse role
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
