The Ball Memorial adult progressive care unit is an 18-bed unit specializing in care for patients transitioning from progressive to medical levels of care, with common diagnoses including pulmonary edema, respiratory failure, GI hemorrhage, heart failure, sepsis, stroke, respiratory system diagnosis with chronic ventilator support, and renal failure. The unit operates on an innovative Team-Based Acuity Adaptable Model (TBAAM), featuring a dedicated interdisciplinary team of skilled nurses, patient care assistants, a unit secretary, an RN case manager, a geographically placed physician, a pharmacist, and a dietician. Interdisciplinary rounding is central to their communication strategy, fostering collaboration among nursing, patients, and families to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. Nurses on this unit are ACLS and NIH certified, committed to continuous improvement and innovation.
