Penrose-St. Francis Health Services is seeking a Registered Nurse for their Preoperative department. This role involves facilitating, communicating, and collaborating with the healthcare team and patient/family to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the patient. The nurse will promote optimal patient health, well-being, and safety through the nursing process, adhering to patient care standards, guidelines, and the State Nurse Practice Act. The position requires a commitment to compassionate, high-quality patient care, strong communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to apply the nursing process effectively within a supportive, mission-driven environment. The role includes assessing patient needs, developing and implementing care plans, performing therapeutic interventions, maintaining patient records, utilizing information technology, advocating for patients, and providing patient/family education. Daily duties include patient education, health assessment, clinical preparation (e.g., starting IVs, administering pre-op medications), verifying preoperative documentation, and coordinating safety handoffs. The department handles approximately 40 cases per day and has 16 OR Suites, 23 PACU Bays, and 17 Prep Op Beds, with Phase I & II recovery in the same areas. The schedule is 36 hours per week, consisting of 4x 9-hour shifts with variable start times and days based on surgical volume and unit needs. A weeknight and weekend call requirement is in place, approximately 2-4 weeknights and 1 weekend in an 8-week schedule, with a 30-minute call-back radius required.
