About The Position

Responsible for the delivery of patient care for assigned patients on a specific shift worked. Coordination of all aspects of the medical plan and nursing standards of care using the nursing process for Post-partum, antepartum, and nursery. Also directs and guides the activities of other personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing. Must be able to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the obstetrical department. Must possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the information. Must be able to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures. This position requires weekend and call rotation. Call response time: 60 minutes. Requirements

• Diploma and/or Associate Degree of Nursing
• Educational requirements per hospital certifications (Example: Stroke, Orthopedic/Spine)
• Education requirements for annual nursing & Unit specific skills
• Current and valid Registered nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or from a state that is part of a Compact agreement with Virginia
• CPR
• NRP
• Ability to meet physical and mental requirements for job
• Basic computer skills
• National Patient Safety Goals

Nice To Haves

• BSN, MSN
• Preferred specialty certification
• STABLE
• Preferred NICU experience and/or post-partum experience

Responsibilities

• Assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the information.
• Complete unit and annual competencies each year.
• Ensure no breaches of confidentiality, no related complaints voiced on patient satisfaction surveys, and no related complaints voiced by fellow care providers of observed incidences.
• Maintain knowledge of location and content of departmental policies and procedures.
• Adhere to Nurse Practice Act-Scope of Practice.
