The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is responsible for recovering patients from anesthesia and managing postoperative care. This includes recovery from general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, and IV sedation. The PACU is a 28-bed unit serving a variety of surgical services including general surgery, urology, gynecology, neurosurgery (including spine surgery), plastic surgery, thoracic and vascular surgery, cardiac procedures (TAVR), bariatric surgery, colorectal surgery, ENT, and OMF surgery. The unit also manages recovery for GI advanced procedure patients and outpatient colonoscopy and endoscopy patients. This is a fast-paced unit receiving patients from over 40 operating rooms and operates 24/7. Hartford Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center and one of the largest teaching hospitals in New England, known for cutting-edge treatments, the largest robotic surgery center in the Northeast, and the Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation (CESI).
