About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is responsible for recovering patients from anesthesia and managing postoperative care. This includes recovery from general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, and IV sedation. The PACU is a 28-bed unit serving a variety of surgical services including general surgery, urology, gynecology, neurosurgery (including spine surgery), plastic surgery, thoracic and vascular surgery, cardiac procedures (TAVR), bariatric surgery, colorectal surgery, ENT, and OMF surgery. The unit also manages recovery for GI advanced procedure patients and outpatient colonoscopy and endoscopy patients. This is a fast-paced unit receiving patients from over 40 operating rooms and operates 24/7. Hartford Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center and one of the largest teaching hospitals in New England, known for cutting-edge treatments, the largest robotic surgery center in the Northeast, and the Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation (CESI).

Requirements

  • Current Connecticut RN License.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
  • BLS certification by the American Heart Association required prior to date of hire.
  • ACLS certification required for external candidates.

Nice To Haves

  • ICU experience preferred.
  • BSN Preferred.
  • Experience with ED, Step-down, and floor level experience may be considered on an individual basis.

Responsibilities

  • Recovering patients from anesthesia.

  • Providing service to a variety of surgical services.
  • Managing the recovery of GI advanced procedure patients.
  • Managing the recovery of outpatient colonoscopy and endoscopy patients.
  • Providing 24/7 service to patients from 40+ operating rooms.
