About The Position

Hartford Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center and part of Connecticut's most comprehensive healthcare network, is seeking a Registered Nurse for its 28-bed Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). This fast-paced unit provides 24/7 service to over 40 operating rooms, managing patient recovery from various surgical services including general surgery, urology, gynecology, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, thoracic and vascular surgery, cardiac procedures (TAVR), bariatric surgery, colorectal surgery, ENT, OMF surgery, advanced GI procedures, and outpatient colonoscopy/endoscopy patients. The role involves recovering patients from general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, and IV sedation, as well as managing their postoperative care. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 2:1. The ideal candidate will have a positive outlook, an open mind, and a "can-do" attitude.

Requirements

  • Current Connecticut RN License
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school
  • BLS certification by the American Heart Association required prior to date of hire
  • ACLS required for external candidates

Nice To Haves

  • ICU experience preferred
  • ED, Step-down, and floor level experience considered on an individual basis
  • BSN Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Recovering patients from anesthesia
  • Managing postoperative care, including recovery from general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, and IV sedation
  • Providing service to a variety of surgical services
  • Managing the recovery of GI advanced procedure patients
  • Managing the recovery of outpatient colonoscopy and endoscopy patients
  • Caring for ICU and step-down patients
