About The Position

Mixed acuity unit PCU, MS Tele and MS pts; REQUIRED: must have PCU/IMC experience within the last 3 years. Ratios adjusted by acuity. This role involves caring for patients with mixed acuities on a PCU, MS Tele, and MS unit, including pre and post-surgical patients (ENT, general Surgery, Trauma surgery, Ortho surgery), and overflow medical diagnosis patients. Travelers are not assigned unless experienced. The unit utilizes EPIC for documentation and Pyxis for medication management, with SBAR for communication.

Requirements

  • PCU/IMC experience within the last 3 years.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience.
  • Traveler Experience: 1st timers are accepted.
  • Locals not accepted (must be >50 miles).
  • ACLS certification.
  • BLS certification.
  • NIHSS certification.

Nice To Haves

  • PALS certification.
  • TCAR certification.
  • TCAR preferred.
  • Experienced with rare Pediatric patients.
  • Experienced with float to sister units.

Responsibilities

  • Manage patients with mixed acuities on a PCU, MS Tele, and MS unit.
  • Provide care for pre and post-surgical patients (ENT, general Surgery, Trauma surgery, Ortho surgery).
  • Care for overflow medical diagnosis patients.
  • Interpret and manage dysrhythmias.
  • Administer IV insulin protocols and titrate Insulin drips.
  • Provide feeding tube care and management.
  • Manage Continuous Bladder Irrigation.
  • Care for patients with renal failure.
  • Access ports and administer blood products.
  • Provide central line care/management.
  • Perform phlebotomy.
  • Manage peripheral line care/management and PICC lines.
  • Start IVs.
  • Manage Heparin Protocols.
  • Manage Cardiac drips (titration may be required).
  • Administer PCA.
  • Administer Thrombolytic Agents.
  • Manage patients with CVA, seizure disorders, and substance withdrawal.
  • Care for patients with ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, total joint replacements, and traction.
  • Manage Mastectomy patients.
  • Manage Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac).
  • Operate External CPAP/BIPAP.
  • Manage High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC).
  • Interpret ABGs.
  • Administer oxygen via Nasal Cannula and Oxygen face masks.
  • Perform non-invasive airway management.
  • Manage Tracheostomy.
  • Implement Isolation Precautions.
  • Provide Wound Care/Wound Vac.
  • Float to corresponding sister units (West 2, West 3, and Observation unit).
