About The Position

The Patient Flow team offers a unique opportunity to apply your critical thinking skills in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment—without the physical demands of the bedside. In this straight weekend role, you will have a direct impact on patient care across all three Sanford Fargo campuses— strong clinical decision-making is essential. You will help ensure patients receive the right care, at the right time, in the right location. Your inpatient experience and clinical judgment will play a key role in coordinating safe, efficient patient flow across the North Region. As part of the Patient Placement team, you will serve as the central point of contact for providers. You will manage incoming calls, coordinate patient transfers, and oversee admissions and transfer activity. You will also monitor real-time and projected bed capacity to support continuous operations throughout the night. This role requires strong critical thinking, confidence in decision-making, and the ability to anticipate patient care needs. This position is full time on a straight night schedule. It is a challenging and rewarding role for an experienced RN. Primary responsibilities include taking phone calls from providers and coordinating patient transfers and care across all Fargo locations. The role supports continuity of operations within the facility by overseeing patient admissions and transfer activity while monitoring current and projected bed and patient care capacity. Requirements

Minimum of three years’ clinical experience required.
Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within six months of employment.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program preferred, including, but not limited to, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
3+ years of inpatient experience

Responsibilities

Serve as the central point of contact for providers.
Manage incoming calls, coordinate patient transfers, and oversee admissions and transfer activity.
Monitor real-time and projected bed capacity to support continuous operations.
Take phone calls from providers and coordinate patient transfers and care across all Fargo locations.
Oversee patient admissions and transfer activity while monitoring current and projected bed and patient care capacity.
Facilitate continuous throughput of patients from all points of entry by utilizing effective verbal and written communication.
Make efficient, effective clinical decisions.
Coordinate and deploy ancillary services to needed areas.
Evaluate patient status, review patient chart regarding current clinical conditions, and determine placement of patient based on patient history and stability.
Coordinate the placement of all admissions (elective and emergent) and transfers in accordance with the clinical standards and guidelines.
Direct patient admissions to the most appropriate bed available using criteria for admission.
Provide oversight of patient throughput to minimize delays in bed turnaround times.
Plan for required staffing resources needed to support patient placements.
Make appropriate patient placement decisions using admission guidelines that define the level of care each unit can provide and specialty care availability.
Use proactive demand capacity planning to project needed beds and staffing for the number of patients expected to present for admission.
Communicate regularly with timely updates to ensure optimal patient flow and address throughput barriers.
Utilize data measurement and patient flow event information to drive for improved results.
Participate in review of staffing effectiveness in relation to impact on patient flow.
Mentor and assist nursing staff to maximize proficiency and timeliness in the admission, transfer and discharge processes.
Review patient flow events and participate in root cause analysis and improvement activities.
