About The Position

The Pre-op/PACU RN is responsible for the pre-operative and post-operative care of the surgical patient for the department. Multidimensional responsibilities include patient/family teaching and patient care throughout the pre-anesthesia and post-anesthesia recovery phases of care. The registered nurse in Pre-op/PACU is involved in the assessment, nursing diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of perceived, potential or actual problems associated with anesthesia agents and surgical procedures.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Nursing program.
• Current licensure in Texas as a Registered Nurse.
• Certified in Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association.
• Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of professionalism during stressful times.
• Strong critical thinking skills.

Nice To Haves

• Minimum of one year acute care experience as an RN.
• Recent working experience in pre-op/PACU.
• Critical care background.
• Strong IV therapy skills.
• ACLS and PALS required within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Provide pre-operative and post-operative care for surgical patients.
• Educate patients and families regarding pre-anesthesia and post-anesthesia recovery.
• Assess, diagnose, treat, and evaluate patient problems related to anesthesia agents and surgical procedures.
