Registered Nurse Overflow Unit (4 South) Full Time-Days
About The Position
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Overflow Unit (4 South) is a full-time position available for day shifts (7 am-7 pm). This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the total nursing care of assigned patients. The RN utilizes communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to create individualized care plans, considering physiological, psychosocial, and cultural diversity. A key responsibility is supervising and delegating tasks to non-professional personnel to ensure optimal patient care. The position requires competence in addressing the age-related needs of specific patient populations within the nursing unit. Working under the direction of leadership and a multi-disciplinary team, the RN provides comprehensive clinical care in accordance with Riverside Health System's standards and facility goals.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) or licensed in a compact state Upon Hire
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire
- Program Graduate, Nursing (Nursing Diploma is minimum education requirement, Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Nursing accepted in lieu of Nursing Diploma) (Required)
- High School Diploma or GED, HS Diploma/GED only required if Nursing Diploma Graduate (Required)
- 2 years of experience (for $7,000 bonus eligibility)
- Must demonstrate competence in dealing with age related needs of the specific patient populations served in nursing unit.

Responsibilities
- Demonstrates ability to assess patient clinical and psychosocial needs by applying standards of practice as it relates to the specialty or patient population.
- Demonstrates nursing unit specific competencies and equipment training.
- Partners with patients and their family to develop, implement and evaluate a plan of care, treatments and procedures that contribute to physiological and psychosocial outcomes of the patient.
- Incorporates evidence based standards of practice and collaborates with interdisciplinary team in care coordination.
- Facilitates safe patient transition to next level of care as part of plan of care.
- Demonstrates sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput to ensure patient receives consistent, competent and ethical care.
- Focuses on quality outcomes of patient when addressing service needs to ensure evidence based quality care of patient.
- Demonstrates understanding of diverse patient care populations.
- Modifies education method to ensure patient/family understanding.
- Assumes responsibility to coordinate and deliver individualized patient education and discharge specific education to family/caregivers.
- Evaluates for comprehension and documents.
- Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
- Delegates and prioritizes tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care and service excellence to meet the patient's care needs.
- Recognizes and responds to emergency situations.
- Evaluates resources and support needed and uses systems to ensure needs are met.
