About The Position

Passionate about precision, teamwork, and patient care? The OR could be your next calling! Providence Health Care, in partnership with BCIT, is offering fully funded perioperative education for nurses interested in a career in the Operating Room (OR). This includes 100% coverage of tuition and textbooks, and paid wages at 100% of the posted FTE for eligible program components. Upon completing the program, you'll receive a Perioperative Nursing Certificate (AORN) and begin working as an OR Registered Nurse at St. Paul's Hospital. Participants in the program must commit to 18 months of full-time service with PHC after completing the program. The program has specific phases: Phase 1: Theory (Pre-requisite courses by distance, unpaid, January 4th to March 26th, 2027), PHC Orientation (New Employee and General Nursing Orientation, paid, March 8th to March 12th, 2027), and Phase 2: Compressed Time Frame (CTF) Classroom/Clinical (paid, April 5th to July 23rd, 2027). As a Staff Nurse, you'll be at the forefront of patient care, working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to ensure patients/residents receive comprehensive support. Requirements

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Proficiency in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures
  • Teamwork skills for interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Interpersonal skills for effective interaction with others
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Applicant must successfully complete the Post-Basic Education prior to working in the Department.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 1-2 year medical/surgical experience
  • Not eligible for those who have received Post-Basic Education Funding from PHC for the past 2 years.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients' physical, social, spiritual, and psychological needs
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans
  • Incorporate teaching into care plans to educate patients and families
  • Make referrals to resources as needed
  • Support fellow healthcare professionals
  • Operate within the framework of Providence Health Care's mission, vision, and values
  • Review patient/resident status using various methods: chart review, observation, interviews, questionnaires, collateral information, and consultation with healthcare team.
  • Assess patient/resident problems and needs, plan, implement, evaluate, and prioritize nursing care and interventions based on clinical judgment and evidence-based practice.
  • Provide nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, technology, and PHC standards.
  • Monitor patient/resident progress, evaluate outcomes, reassess as needed, and modify care plan accordingly.
  • Record observations and communicate changes in patient/resident condition to designated staff.
