About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) - 6CC Oncology position is a full-time role located in Winston Salem, NC. The 6CC unit is a 40-bed oncology unit with 20 beds for Leukemia services and 20 beds for the HOA service. The HOA service provides symptom management for various cancer patients, focusing on treating side effects of cancer treatment such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pain management, fevers, infections, and failure to thrive. The unit is dedicated to providing compassionate and supportive care to patients and their families. This role involves leading and coordinating daily unit operations, making staffing and patient assignments, serving as a clinical resource, supporting patient flow, promoting patient safety and quality outcomes, coaching and mentoring staff, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team, responding to emergencies, and assisting with orientation and education.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of recent acute care nursing experience required
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise and strong critical thinking skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric inpatient experience preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience as a Charge Nurse, Clinical Lead, Preceptor, or other informal leadership role preferred.
  • Experience coordinating patient flow, staffing assignments, and interdisciplinary collaboration preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach staff while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and coordinating daily unit operations to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
  • Making staffing and patient assignments based on patient acuity, staff competency, and workflow.
  • Serving as the clinical resource and first point of escalation for staff, patients, and providers.
  • Supporting patient flow by coordinating admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Promoting patient safety, quality outcomes, and regulatory compliance.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and supporting frontline staff while fostering a positive team culture.
  • Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to ensure effective communication and care coordination.
  • Responding to emergencies and operational issues while maintaining situational awareness across the unit.
  • Assisting with orientation, education, performance improvement initiatives, and implementation of evidence-based practice.
