About The Position

Located in Lakewood, Colorado, St. Anthony Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center that provides a full range of medical specialties and health care services. The hospital is a state-of-the-art medical campus and home base for Flight For Life Colorado. The 1E Med-Surg/Observation Unit is a 22-bed department that handles over 300 patients a month. This unit is a new concept unit with a combination of both observation (14 beds) status and inpatient status (8 beds) patients. Observation beds take a variety of patients requiring further time to be observed from the ED. If a patient needs further testing or monitoring and is not appropriate to stay in the ED, then this department will take them. The top two diagnoses are chest pain and abdominal pain. Patients sent from surrounding free-standing EDs with the same criteria are also accepted. When a patient requires care longer than 24-48 hours, they will be transferred to an inpatient status and moved to one of the hospital's inpatient beds or another inpatient unit. The department's mission is to deliver safe quality care to every patient in a timely manner. Many join this team due to an interest in emergency medicine. This department is a great place to solidify med/surg skills, develop excellent time management, and gain a better understanding of both emergency room patients and med/surg inpatients. Nurses will have the opportunity to provide care to all types of patients and work alongside a mid-level provider (PA or NP) with every patient. The team is described as close-knit with a solid positive team culture, offering opportunities to learn about many different disease processes. The goal is to help team members achieve their nursing goals and attain education or certification. Candidates should be open, willing to ask questions, flexible with schedules, able to see the broader picture, and fast learners. This is a very fast-paced department as patients are admitted and discharged on every shift. Nurses must be adaptable to change and willing to work hard as they will be very busy every shift. Nurses will help advance modern nursing by providing skills, experience, and commitment to compassionate care within a faith-based, mission-driven culture. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will assume responsibility and accountability for facilitating, communicating, and collaborating with the healthcare team and patient/family to identify and meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the patient. You will promote the optimal health, well-being, and safety of the patient through the nursing process and in accordance with patient care standards, guidelines, and the State Nurse Practice Act. You will demonstrate personal accountability for relationship-based care, organizational mission, and core values.

Requirements

At least six months of direct RN experience
Associates Degree in Nursing required
Nursing Diploma or by endorsement
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required for new graduates, preferred for experienced RNs
One year RN experience
Nursing skills and knowledge base specific to specialty
RN License required
Current state nursing licenses or valid RN license from a participating state in the National Licensure Compact

Nice To Haves

Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing preferred for experienced RNs
