St Anthony HospitalLakewood, CO

About The Position

The 1E Med-Surg/Observation Unit at St. Anthony Hospital is a 22-bed department that manages a high volume of patients monthly. This unit operates with a unique model, combining observation status (14 beds) and inpatient status (8 beds) patients. Observation patients typically require further evaluation from the Emergency Department (ED) or surrounding free-standing EDs, with common diagnoses including chest pain and abdominal pain. Patients requiring care beyond 24-48 hours are transferred to inpatient status. The department's mission is to provide safe, quality, and timely care. This unit offers a dynamic environment for nurses interested in emergency medicine, allowing them to hone med/surg skills, develop time management abilities, and gain a comprehensive understanding of both ED and inpatient care. Nurses work collaboratively with mid-level providers (PA or NP) and care for a diverse patient population, fostering learning about various disease processes. The hospital supports team members in achieving their nursing goals through education and certification. Ideal candidates are open, inquisitive, flexible, able to see the bigger picture, and quick learners. This is a fast-paced unit with frequent admissions and discharges, requiring nurses to be adaptable, resilient, and hardworking due to the consistently high patient load. Nurses contribute to advancing modern nursing through compassionate care within a faith-based, mission-driven culture that emphasizes excellence and professional fulfillment.
