As a Registered Nurse on our Neuroscience & Epilepsy Unit, you will care for a wide spectrum of neurology and neurosurgical patients across four primary service lines: General Neurology, Neurosurgery, Stroke, and Epilepsy. Our unit features mixed acuity, including both step-down and floor-level beds, as well as Phase I–IV Epilepsy Monitoring, supported by a dedicated monitoring team that oversees patients throughout the organization. Our team includes nurses with decades of experience alongside emerging clinicians building their expertise toward careers in critical care, research, or advanced practice.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Licensed and a currently registered nurse in the State of Connecticut.
- Current BLS certification or must obtain within one month of hire.
- BLS required.
- Requires prolonged standing; walking; use of sight, hearing, and touch.
- May be exposed to infectious diseases.
- Will be exposed to physical, mental and emotional illness as well as end of life conditions and death.
- Moderate stress and risk of injury from patient care.
- Standing/walking for more than half of the day.
- Must be able to assist pushing/pulling/lifting patients ranging from five (5) to three hundred (300) pounds.

Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive neurological assessments for acute and chronic neuro patients.
- Monitor for changes in neurological status, hemodynamics, seizure activity, and indicators of post-surgical complications or stroke progression.
- Recognize and respond promptly to early signs of neurological decline, seizure escalation, or treatment-related complications.
- Provide care for patients undergoing neurosurgery, stroke interventions, and advanced epilepsy diagnostics including continuous EEG monitoring.
- Administer specialized neurological therapies and complex medication regimens, including antiepileptic, thrombolytic, and neuroprotective treatments.
- Support coordination of imaging, EEG, surgical procedures, and interventions critical to stroke, neurology, and epilepsy care pathways.
- Respond to neurological emergencies including seizures, status epilepticus, stroke alerts, and post-operative complications.
- Operate specialized equipment such as continuous EEG systems, infusion pumps, and telemetry monitors.
- Provide extensive teaching to patients and families on seizure safety, stroke recovery, post-surgical care, and long-term disease management.
- Participate actively in multidisciplinary rounds and contribute to individualized neuro care plans.
- Maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR) and adhere to hospital protocols, infection control, and safety standards.
