About The Position

This is a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry travel nursing contract position at a healthcare facility in Wilmington, NC. The role involves providing care to a diverse patient population with diagnoses including dementia, diabetes, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, and typical M/S diagnoses. The unit features an isolation area for COVID patients and multi-level care to include stepdown (cared for by stepdown staff, not M/S staff). Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team, and may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster. Consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract may occur and contract staff may be preassigned to units as needed.

  • Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty
  • Flu vaccination required (Medical/Religious exemptions only)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience required

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical-surgical and telemetry nursing care with target patient ratios of 1:5–6
  • Perform remote monitoring via Telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias
  • Utilize Rapid Response Team as appropriate
  • Administer IV insulin protocols and manage colostomy care
  • Provide feeding tube care and management
  • Manage Pre/Post Hemodialysis care
  • Administer blood products
  • Perform central line blood draws and manage peripheral lines
  • Perform phlebotomy and manage PICC lines
  • Start IVs and administer Heparin and PCA
  • Manage chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac)
  • Manage CPAP/BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, and oxygen face masks
  • Manage portable oxygen tanks and perform non-invasive airway management
  • Perform oral suctioning
  • Maintain isolation precautions
  • Provide wound care and wound vac management
  • Participate in floating assignments as required
  • Work assigned weekends (12–16 per contract)
  • Report to work during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters as assigned to Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team
