About The Position

This is a Medical Surgical Registered Nurse position. The unit primarily cares for adults and geriatrics with general Med/Surg diagnoses, with a daily census of approximately 43 patients. Special procedures and unit details include Heparin Drips, Wound Vac Drsg Changes, High Flow Oxygen, and occasional limited short-term BiPap with respiratory support. No additional training is needed, and the role is appropriate for all med/surg nurses. There are no PCU level patients on this unit. The unit utilizes PYXIS for medication, EPIC for documentation, and SBAR for communication. Travelers will be assigned to an Inclement Weather Team and may be required to work holidays, potentially caring for COVID patients. Contract staff may also be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and might be required to report to work during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters. Consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract may occur, with contract staff preassigned to units as needed. Unit orientation is 24 hours. Scrubs are not provided; navy is the required color. All travelers and staff are required to attend unit team meetings, scheduled for the 4th Wednesday of each month (January-October) at 1730, and the 3rd Wednesday of each month (November-December) at 1730. Additional meetings for night shift staff will be held at 0730 on the Friday immediately following the Wednesday meetings.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience.
  • EPIC EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.
  • BCLS certification.
  • Ability to work holidays possibly of taking care of COVID patients.
  • Ability to be assigned to an Inclement Weather Team.
  • Ability to work every other weekend.
  • Ability to pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty.

Nice To Haves

  • CPI certification.
  • Charge nurse experience.
  • Charge role is preferred for night travelers.

Responsibilities
