About The Position

The Registered Nurse Medical/Surgical will observe and assess the patient's clinical condition, recognizing, identifying, and interpreting serious situations and immediately deciding and taking appropriate action. They will formulate a nursing diagnosis and develop a plan of care for individual patients by interviewing patients and family members, reviewing the patient's health record, and determining the kind of health and physical care required, including discharge planning. The nurse will initiate appropriate measures in emergency situations when physicians are not immediately available. They will operate and monitor general and specialized nursing equipment utilized in the general medical surgical department and administer therapeutic measures and medications as prescribed by the physician. Responsibilities also include planning, providing, and documenting the teaching of patients and families in preventive, curative, and rehab measures, and recording observations and nursing interventions, as well as therapeutic measures administered and the status of coordinated activities between nursing and other professional disciplines. The nurse will also complete Indian Health Service required training. Proper and adequate services for patient care shall be in accordance with standard nursing practices and shall be equal in quality to services normally performed for the public and a Joint Commission Accreditation for Healthcare Organization accredited facility. All nurses shall have proficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to use a computer.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school.
  • Current, valid, unrestricted nursing license within the Continental United States.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience required although 4 years is preferred of full-time Med/Surg or Ambulatory Care/Clinic specific experience that has occurred within the past 24 months with a minimum of those years occurring at a tertiary level facility.
  • BLS and ACLS certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Documentation of receiving a TB skin test within the past 12 months with documentation of a follow-up for a positive test.

Nice To Haves

  • PALS Basic Dysrhythmia is preferred.
  • Previous ED experience is preferred.
  • Will be required to float to ED as needed.
