About The Position

Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is part of Lifepoint Health, a diversified healthcare delivery network. As a Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical/Surgical, you will be joining a vital mission dedicated to making communities healthier. This role offers a team environment with extra support staff such as CNAs, MAs, Nurse Externs, and MTs. The Medical/Surgical unit provides a flexible work schedule and a typical patient to nurse ratio of 5:1.

Requirements

  • Graduates of an RN program
  • Current nurse’s license in the state of Pennsylvania or a current multistate license (MSL) from compact member states/territories.
  • Associate’s degree is required.
  • BLS within 30 days of hire required.
  • ACLS within 30 days of hire required.
  • Basic Trauma Nurse Course (BTNC) or equivalent training (ATCN, TCRN, TNCC) obtained within 1 year of hire is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • PALS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate effective utilization of the nursing process as the basis for nursing practices.
  • Develop an individualized care plan to meet the patient’s physical, emotional, and psychological needs.
  • Plan appropriate nursing interventions, regularly evaluate the patient's response to care, and update plans to reflect changing needs.
  • Develop a discharge plan with the physician, patient, and family, and prepare the patient for discharge.
  • Complete discharge instruction records as per physician direction and review information with patient/family to assure knowledge of self-care.
  • Complete transfer and obtain appropriate consents when a patient is transferred to another facility and give a complete report to the accepting caregiver.
  • Complete education record and/or transfer record in EMR.
  • Demonstrate effectiveness in coordinating care, identifying needs, and making appropriate referrals.
  • Provide care according to hospital policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
  • Administer medications and IV therapies accurately, safely, and effectively, monitoring effects and reporting adverse effects.
  • Educate patients on new medications, providing information on the reason for the medication and adverse effects to watch for.
  • Accurately account for narcotics as per procedures and document all medications administered.
  • Recognize and report errors and adverse reactions in a timely manner.
  • Function according to the State Nurse Practice Act and deliver care consistent with hospital policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Provide for patient safety and security needs by maintaining a clean and safe environment and placing call bells within patients' reach.
  • Demonstrate understanding of hospital infection control procedures and utilize appropriate handwashing and universal precautions.
  • Promptly answer patient call lights and fulfill patient requests as soon as possible. Make patient rounds hourly and as needed.
  • Maintain patient care equipment, report malfunctions, and requisition service appropriately.
  • Utilize effective communication skills with patients, family members, and the healthcare team.
  • Communicate pertinent patient care information at the change of shift via BSSR.
  • Communicate significant changes in patient's condition to the team leader, physician, and supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Monitor patients hourly or every 2 hours.
  • Regularly report complaints of patients, visitors, and physicians through personal action or referral.
  • Complete and document performance improvement activities, participate in problem identification, and carry out actions to improve patient care.
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities and assume leadership roles.
  • Function independently by demonstrating responsibility for the delivery of care to all assigned patients.
  • Direct, supervise, and evaluate care delivered by ancillary staff members.
  • Serve as a professional role model for staff and a preceptor for new personnel.
  • Manage conflict and frustration in a positive and constructive manner and accept constructive criticism.
  • Utilize appropriate lines of authority within the organizational structure.
  • Demonstrate competence in assessing patient care needs and utilizing appropriate staff to provide for patient care.
  • Use supplies efficiently and with regard to both effectiveness and cost.
  • Maintain an orderly and therapeutic environment by keeping patient rooms and nurses’ station clean, safe, uncluttered, and free of unneeded supplies/equipment.
  • Demonstrate accountability for personal and professional standards.
  • Maintain current knowledge in area/s of present nursing practice, appropriate certification, and completion of competencies for assigned unit.
  • Demonstrate understanding of emergency and internal/external disaster plans.
  • Positively impact and improve nursing practice through proactive action.
