About The Position

This specific role is for a Registered Nurse on a medical unit (Joseph 3A/B) within the Hospital Internal Medicine service, which manages patients with various acute or chronic health problems, often requiring complex discharge planning. The position emphasizes the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, requiring accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating nursing care. The RN will also provide leadership through preceptor roles, informal/formal leadership, and quality improvement efforts. Delegation of patient care is based on skill, experience, acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability. Excellent communication, mentoring, and teaching skills are essential. Some employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle for role responsibilities. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship, requiring state licensure and VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a nursing program recognized by ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA.
  • If graduated from a non-accredited nursing program, at least one year of RN experience in an applicable care setting or one year of LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is required.
  • One year nursing experience required.
  • All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020 and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.
  • All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date prior to April 1, 2020 must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program as stipulated by the degree requirement program in place at time of hire.
  • Current RN license by applicable state requirements (must obtain prior to start date).
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support for healthcare providers- BCLS – certificate of course completion required and must not expire within 3 months after start date.
  • Acceptable BCLS certificate providers: American Heart Association (Title: BLS for Healthcare Providers or BLS Provider) or Red Cross (Title: CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers or BLS for Healthcare Providers).
  • Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of RN experience in an applicable care setting or one year of current LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call.
  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care.
  • Support of professional nursing practice across practice settings and the continuum of care.
  • Planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
  • Providing leadership through preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts.
  • Delegating patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and availability of resources.
  • Functioning within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model.
  • May participate on committees or projects.
  • A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as a part of the responsibility of their role.
