About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) Med Surg General Surgical position at Texas Health Fort Worth provides care to a wide variety of post-operative patients, including those with complex gastro-intestinal and abdominal surgeries and plastics-related wound care cases requiring ostomy, drain, and wound vac management. This role is within a 36-bed unit in a MAGNET facility and a Level I Trauma Center. The position offers self-scheduling for work/life balance, opportunities for educational and career growth, and a robust Unit Based Council (UBC) with an engaged leadership team.

Requirements

Associate Degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing required
Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire required
BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly required
1-year experience as a registered nurse required or the completion of an RN Residency program

Nice To Haves

BSN preferred
CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
2+ years Med Surg experience as an RN in acute care setting preferred

Responsibilities

Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process
Assesses the patient
Plans the care of the patient
Intervenes as appropriate
Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions
Incorporates age-specific safety/infection control measures into patient care
Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information
Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out-of-hospital transfers
