About The Position
The General Surgical Nurse provides care to a wide variety of post-operative patients, including complex gastro-intestinal and abdominal surgeries and plastics-related wound care cases requiring ostomy, drain, and wound vac management. This role is at a 36-bed unit within a MAGNET facility and a Level I Trauma Center. The position offers self-scheduling for work-life balance and opportunities for educational and career growth, along with a robust Unit Based Council (UBC) and engaged leadership team.
Requirements
- Associate Degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing required
- Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire required
- BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly required
- CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
- 1-year experience as a registered nurse required or the completion of an RN Residency program
Nice To Haves
- BSN preferred
- 2+ years Med Surg experience as an RN in acute care setting preferred
Responsibilities
- Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process
- Assesses the patient
- Plans the care of the patient
- Intervenes as appropriate
- Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions
- Incorporates age-specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
- Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information
- Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out-of-hospital transfers.
