Registered Nurse Med Surg General Surgical Unit - Full Time Days

About The Position
The General Surgical Nurse provides care to a wide variety of post op patients including complex gastro-intestinal and abdominal surgeries and plastics related wound care cases requiring ostomy, drain and wound vac management. This is a 36 bed unit within a MAGNET facility and Level I Trauma Center. Self-scheduling is available to help with work/life balance, as well as opportunities for educational and career growth. The unit has a robust Unit Based Council (UBC) and an engaged leadership team.
Requirements
- Associate Degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing required
- Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire required
- BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly required
- CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
- 1-year experience as a registered nurse or the completion of an RN Residency program
Nice To Haves
- BSN preferred
- 2+ years med surg experience as an RN in acute care setting preferred.
Responsibilities
- Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process
- Assesses the patient
- Plans the care of the patient
- Intervenes as appropriate
- Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions
- Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
- Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information
- Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
