About The Position

This is a 13-week assignment for a Travel RN in Labor and Delivery. The role involves performing an age-specific plan of care for a designated group of patients using the nursing process. The nurse will collaborate with physicians and other health team members, utilizing leadership skills and clinical judgment to coordinate patient care and direct the activities of the patient care unit team.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing, required.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of professional nursing experience in the related specialty.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State and/or Connecticut, required.
  • BLS required.
  • Advance NRP required.
  • Intermediate AWHONN required.
  • C-EFM required.
  • ACLS required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the patient’s physiologic health status, including gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, and neurological health status. Conducts patient interviews, explains policies and procedures, reviews charts, and answers questions. Assesses pain levels and pain management. Communicates and documents patient's physiologic health status and plan of care.
  • Assesses patient’s psychosocial health status, including perception of care, coping mechanisms, knowledge level, and cultural/ethnic requirements. Communicates and documents psychological status and care plan.
  • Identifies patient outcomes by developing criteria for measurement, identifying actual/potential patient problems, assessing teaching needs, and developing patient outcome statements and individualized patient goals.
  • Formulates the plan of care and establishes priorities necessary to achieve expected outcomes. Identifies care activities, coordinates cost-effective use of resources, and documents the plan of care in collaboration with physicians and other health team members.
  • Implements the plan of care by maintaining patient safety, exercising professional skills, reassessing patients as needed, administering treatments correctly, using equipment appropriately, providing emotional support, applying scientific principles safely, making accurate observations, documenting treatments and patient responses, managing emergencies, providing a calm atmosphere, and participating in discharge planning.
  • Evaluates care provided for patient outcome by measuring effectiveness of care, performing variance analysis, designing/implementing/evaluating systems to improve care, and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Collaborates with other care team members in planning and carrying out treatment regimens. Collaborates with physicians, interprets and implements treatment regimens, assists physicians, keeps management informed of patient condition changes, and uses clinical judgment in delegating assignments.
  • Performs grade I-IV Decubitus Care, including preventive skin care, applying dressings, compresses, and performing irrigations.
  • Administers medications correctly and safely, identifying medication action, dosage, side effects, and implications. Meets medication administration examination standards, demonstrates preparation of solutions and IV drips, administers and documents medications correctly, and educates patients on drug and food interactions.
  • Participates in patient and family education by explaining conditions, communicating assessment data, recognizing teaching opportunities, providing discharge planning and referrals, and evaluating teaching effectiveness.
  • Performs related duties as required.
