About The Position

This is a 13-week contract position for a Travel RN Registered Nurse in Labor & Delivery (L&D). The role requires the nurse to perform an age-specific plan of care for a designated group of patients using the nursing process. This includes assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. The nurse will collaborate with physicians and other health team members in coordinating and implementing procedures and treatments, utilizing leadership skills and clinical judgment. The position offers a flexible schedule and a competitive salary.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing, required.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of professional nursing experience in the related specialty.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State and/or Connecticut, required.
  • BLS required.
  • ACLS required.
  • Advanced NRP required.
  • Intermediate AWHONN required.
  • C-EFM required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the patient’s physiologic health status, including conducting patient interviews, explaining policies and procedures, reviewing charts, and assessing gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, and neurological health status. Adjusts the plan of care based on mobility, sensory deficits, prostheses use, and skin condition. Assesses pain level and pain management, and communicates/documents the patient’s physiologic health status and plan of care.
  • Assesses the patient’s psychosocial health status, including eliciting perception of medical/nursing care, determining coping mechanisms, knowledge level, and ability to comprehend. Identifies cultural/ethnic requirements to reduce anxiety and ensure patient satisfaction. Communicates and documents psychological status and care plan, including support group, counseling services, and social services.
  • Identifies patient outcomes by developing criteria for measurement, identifying actual/potential patient problems, and assessing the patient’s need for teaching based on psychosocial and developmental assessment. Develops patient outcome statements and establishes individualized patient goals.
  • Formulates the plan of care and establishes priorities necessary to achieve expected outcomes. Identifies care activities and coordinates the cost-effective use of supplies, equipment, and medication. Documents the plan of care and collaborates with physicians and other health team members.
  • Implements the plan of care by maintaining vigilance over patient safety, exercising professional skills, reassessing patients as needed, correctly administering prescribed treatments, and safely using necessary equipment. Provides emotional support, applies scientific principles safely and efficiently, makes accurate observations, and keeps accurate documentation. Acts rapidly and effectively during emergencies, provides a calm atmosphere, communicates effectively with family/caretakers, participates in discharge planning, and provides discharge instructions.
  • Evaluates care provided for patient outcomes by measuring effectiveness, performing variance analysis, designing/implementing/evaluating systems to improve care, and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Collaborates with other care team members in planning and carrying out treatment regimens, providing direction to other team members. Accurately interprets and implements treatment regimens, assists physicians during procedures, and keeps the Patient Care Manager/designee and/or physician informed of patient condition changes. Uses clinical judgment in delegating assignments to support staff.
  • Performs grade I-IV Decubitus Care, including preventive skin care measures, applying simple dressings with aseptic technique, applying warm & cold compresses, and performing irrigations.
  • Administers medications correctly and safely, identifying medication action, dosage, side effects, and implications for the patient. Meets standards on medication administration exams, demonstrates preparation of local solutions and IV drips, administers and documents medication correctly, and educates patients/significant others on drug and food interactions.
  • Participates in patient and family education by explaining the patient’s condition, communicating assessment data, recognizing and utilizing teaching opportunities and resources, providing early discharge planning, and evaluating the effectiveness of teaching.
  • Performs related duties as required.
